Merchants of Cool:
Recently while watching the film the Italian Job I saw the car the Mini Cooper being advertised. Although the car is quite small the movie had portrayed the car as being a muscle car. Another way they made the car seem quite good was that one of the drivers was known as an amazing driver before and because he drove the car it made it seem much stronger and better. Finally another way that they made the car appealing is that the majority of the driving that they were doing way stunt driving such as large jumps or driving down stairs. By choosing this car I believe that it really enhanced the film because it showed how a smaller car can be really powerful. Also on Mini Coopers part it was really smart to pay to get their car into this movie because of the fact that the Mini is a reasonably priced car in most countries and having their car advertised in this movie really benefited sales for their company. The link below is to a scene of the movie where they are test driving the Mini that makes the car look very appealing. Enjoy!

How has the Internet helped or hurt groups that are often targeted?
I believe that the internet has both helped and hurt the groups that were targeted. Websites such as YouTube and Facebook are two of the biggest website on the web today. We hear allot of story about people who voice their opinions online but we also see allot of stereotypes being brought out on the web. For example I typed in stereotypes on Google and also got a mixed response as well. Many pages showed ways of spotting stereotypes and others were joke pages that had jokes about different stereotypes.
This is a really good video about stereotypes:

Content Analysis:
For my stereotype analysis I decided to watch a television show that allot of people in our class enjoy watching, Entourage. In the sixth season finale they are many instances where stereotypes are expressed. For example in the first scene one of the guys Turtle who goes to UCLA, meets up with a ``friend`` who is portrayed as the stereotype of a college girl. She is beautiful and always wants to party a get with guys. Another stereotype is in a scene where Ari (the agents) gets dragged by his wife to go see a therapist. In is not only in this show where I have seen this it is in other shows like the Simpsons where similar instances occur.
Doves Campaign For Real Beauty :
After touring this website I had mixed feelings about this campaign. At a first glance it seems like that they have a point to prove which is that you don’t need to look like Jessica Alba to be good looking. I thought that this was good because it had the potential to raise girls self esteems but then after thinking about it for a minute I wondered, why if you do not need makeup to be good looking, why do you need to use doves products?. After realizing this I saw an advertisement on the side saying that if you enter a code from a dove product online, dove will donate a dollar to some charity that they are affiliated with. This is basically a dirty technique for dove trying to get people to buy their product because if they do dove will donate a small portion of the money that they profited from you buying the product to charity.
Norris 5:
The Article Goods Flood Gaza’s Tunnels, Turning Border Area Into a Shopping Mecca, tells about the underground “shopping center” in Rafah. With this article I will demonstrate how to analyze an article using the Norris Five. The article is quite informative as it discusses views of owners and workers of the new tunnel system have developed around the border of Gaza and Egypt. We can’t validate the truthfulness of this article but we do know that many tunnels exist in this area and are being used for such purposes as smuggling in goods, weapons and sources of fuel. This article is quite balanced and pluralistic seeing as how it shows a few different points of view. It discusses the views of the Egyptians, Israeli’s, Hamas, the owners and the workers in the tunnels. Finally the article is presented in an objective rather than biased way. In conclusion this is an amazing article in terms of meeting the Norris five criteria. (also it is incredibly interesting)

News Program:
For my news analysis I decided to watch France 24, because I find it to be the most balanced news source today. One of the main issues that they were talking about was about Iran and their nuclear program. The news programs headline read Iran faltering to sign nuclear agreement. The report was very informative as it gave many different perspectives on the issue such as the Iranian government, Israel and the United Nations. The news was useful for the locals because many Iranians are afraid that because of its countries nuclear power it creates allot of conflict with the west. Other stories covered were about Jean Sarkozy which really applied to the locals of Paris because it discussed a new job that he denied on taking.

Supersize Me: My Reaction
Both of these articles are dealing with the movie, Supersize Me starring and directed by Morgan Spurlock. These articles both have very different opinions and extremes on this situation.
As we all know there is an obesity epidemic facing the people of the world today. They way that Morgan Spurlock decided to share his opinion through a documentary explaining the dangers of eating fast food in excess. Now although I agree with what Morgan is saying I do believe that he took the whole concept way too far. The fact that eating fast food is unhealthy for you is widely known fact and has been for a long time. But Spurlock decides to prove the ability of eating this food.
In the movie it seems like he is the voice of the people who have tried to sue the fast food companies but just can’t. Such as the case with two women who tried to sue Mc. Donald’s, saying that it was the cause of their obesity.
Now technically I don’t agree with either one of these article considering that the present the two different extremes. But my opinion can relate more to the TCS Daily article in the sense that we both believe that Spurlock was just doing this to win a award for his documentary.

Final Copy - Who Own The Media
Who Owns the Media?
The dictionary defines the media as, “The means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and magazines, which reach or influence people widely”. In my opinion, the media is the way that we get awareness on anything going on in the world. The average human sees about 3000 advertisements on a daily basis and watches approximately 1,500 hours of TV a year. Which brings us to the question, Who owns and supplies us with the Media?
In the article “The Allegory of the Cave”, Plato says that, “....there are invisible truths lying under the apparent surface of things which only the most enlightened can grasp.” I believe that this is the essence of the theory about who owns the media. There are only a small few that are smart enough to control the media. You must be incredibly smart to become successful in the media business. Plato also had said, “The prisoners in the cave are not seeing reality, but only a shadowy representation of it.” I agree with this statement in the sense that most of the people today are living in this so-called cave. The media controls everything that we see and do, therefore putting them in the cave, exposed only to what the people at the top choose to let them see.
Another viewpoint on this was in the article “The Nation”. Basically the article states that the media is controlled by a cartel. The cartel includes the top media companies in the world, such as Apple and CNN. In my opinion, the cartel does contribute a lot to the control of the media. However, there are other contributing factors because even small people (so to speak) can have an influence on the big picture. One example of this is youtube. People can upload homemade videos that become instant successes, or people can influence the news by uploading images caught on a cell phone or camera.
The problem with the media cartel controlling the programming of the media is the fact that they are in it mainly for the money. Therefore, they will do whatever it takes to get a show, site or commercial to succeed, whether the quality is good or not. Plato would say that they are not the enlightened ones, and don’t deserve to have the power that they do. I agree to some extent, because these people did, obviously, work to get to their position. Therefore, they should have some success.
Whether we want it or not, the media is everywhere and all powerful. When we are at school, or stopped at an intersection, there is always something that catches our eyes that makes us think. It is not an MNC that runs the media; it is the media “cartel” so to speak which all together runs the media. Money may drive the media and the decision of those that “own” it. However, if possible, ways should be found that help the average human “cave dweller” to influence and censor decisions made by the media cartel.

War Of The Worlds
After listening to the War of the Worlds news brodcast, i didnt really understand why these people believed what was being said on the radio. After I thought for a minute and said well what are these people suppposed to beleive? Then i had understood why this news brodcast had such a powerful influence on what these people had done. Also i thought about whether if a brodcast like this was made today what would be people's reaction. If a similar brodcast was made today i dont think that people would react in the same way because of the fact that the news now a days is very war/threat oreintated and people seem to just be living their normal lives.
